KEEPER'S COTTAGE
Set in the rural part of South Down’s National Park near Petersfield, the refurbishment of this old-thatched cottage involved the part demolition of an existing 1950’s breeze block extension. A new extension was constructed in keeping with the original character of the cottage with as much reclaimed, natural, and breathable materials. We also surveyed the existing oak frame for beetle damage and replaced with new green oak.
The foundations were constructed out of limecrete and the supporting plinths out of loadbearing foamglass blocks which also act as a thermal break. Bricks were reclaimed.
