The refurbishment of this Grade2 listed building into an exemplar of luxury living presented several engineering challenges including the construction of three levels of basement within a site bordered by equally sensitive structures.

Due to the historic importance of the building, we prioritised the re-use of the existing building fabric where possible rather than advocating their wholesale replacement with new structures. Cast-iron beams which were contemporary to the building’s erection, were diligently surveyed for damages and justified for modern loads. Targeted strengthening with carbon fibre reinforcement were applied where necessary.
